Wellington on his column

The Wellington Column was erected at the top of William Brown street in Liverpool in 1867 after the death of the Duke of Wellington and it is possible to climb up the inside to the top.

The scaffolding poles secured across the iron railings were fixed into place after VE Day in 1945. Damage occured from revellers hanging victory banners and  they remain as a memento of the occasion.

You did the Duke proud, Les!
Les Auld: Thanks Ginnie, the evening sun helped as well.
Strange quality to the sky here Les - I see he has his boots on! Mike
Les Auld: Thanks Blackdog, the sky was very intnse the other evening but it may also be down to the HDR effect being a bit overdone - I'm still learning the best way to use Photomatix to produce HDRs, I thought the column came out well though so perhaps I had taken my eye off the sky.
Great posey from old nosey!!! All the best, Dave.
Les Auld: Thanks Dave, Rumour has it that the statue is cast from the bronze of French guns captured at Waterloo, although so is every other statue of Wellington I suppose.
