The Match Girls

Musketeers in the Sealed Knot use matchlock muskets which have a slow match in the locl which fires the gunpowder when it is fired. Before they go into close combat, beating each other up with the but end of the muskets, they have to take out the match and hand over to someone for safety. These two girls were holding ontot he matches during the close combat, afterwards they would give the matches back to the musketeers.

Do you think this work was done by women or boys in the past actual battles? I love this series of yours. Great capture again.
Les Auld: Thanks Louis, I don't think that they were too concerned about health and saftety back in 1643, I suspect the matches were left in then.

Glad you stopped by, I would never have found your work otherwise as my access to the internet is very limited at the moment!

This is an excellent photo - I love the composition and dof, they look straight out of an oil painting. I actually live on Edge Hill - the scene of the first battle of the Civil War, 1642 I think, but have never seen any "wargaming" re-enactments. Surprised at the attention to detail!

Cheers Mike
Les Auld: Thanks Mike, Appreciate your stopping by. Edge Hillis one of the battlefields I nave not been to, I don't know if there is anything there. The participants pay great attention to detail, there is a thriving industry supplying clothes, weapons and other needs to the re-nactors.

This is one of my favorites thus far in the series, Les. I love it!
Les Auld: Glad you like it Ginnie, thanks for the comment.
Very well done, I like very much the expression of the ladies, great concentration !
Les Auld: Thanks Zeb, appreciate the comment.
Excellent capture. The dof is great. All the best, Dave.
Les Auld: The DoF is purely accidental, I left it up to the camera to decide. Thanks David.
