photoblog image Rufford Old Hall

Rufford Old Hall

Just down the road is Rufford Old Hall, now owned by the National Trust, once the home of the Hesketh family. It dates back to the 16th century and the Black and White extension is the great hall. I would bet they did not need planning permission for it.

This is a perfect structure against a perfectly manicured lawn against a perfect sky! What more could they ask for!
Les Auld: Wouldn't be the picture without the hard work put in by the National Trust, thanks for the comment Ginnie.
This almost looks like a painting. Nice work with the light!

Ditto what Martin said. This looks great!
Les Auld: Ditto what I said to Martin, thanks Kay.
Lovely photograph, beautifully balanced, and I particularly like the sculpted shrubs on the lawn. (:o)
Les Auld: There are some other gardens around the back looking just as good, thanks for the comment Rosalyn.
So quintessentially English and beautifully executed. I think you've just drummed up some business for the National Trust!
Les Auld: True, I don't think you would find this type of building in many other places. appreciate the comment.

Classic image, lovely building, enhanced with lovely soft light and cloud detail- couldn't be improved!
Didn't he (Hesketh) make a luxury motorbike in the Seventies? and a car racing team too?
Les Auld: Thanks david. Theer was a Formula 1 racing team under the Hesketh colours, I think they had the only six wheeled car as well, I think it was the same family. They also did make the bike, I remember it being launched.
The grass looks manicured. Nice shot.
Les Auld: You can just imagine the gardeners out with the manicure scissors, thanks Mary.
Lovely building, well captured Les.

As we've taken up National Trust membership this is certainly on my list of places to visit.
Les Auld: I think it is very interesting inside as well, well worth the visit. I can also recommend Speke Hall in Liverpool, a building of similar age.

Exellent Les, the clouds came as if called. I just love those crazy trimmed shrubs on the lawn.
Les Auld: Thanks Louis, many of the great houses have topiary gardens, this is only a small example. Thanks for the comment Louis.
