photoblog image The Tall Ships in port.

The Tall Ships in port.

This weekend sees the maritime event " All Aboard " in Liverpool. eight tall ships are in Wellington dock and open to the public. Luckily the afternoon did not degenerate into a rain soaked scene as had been promised by the local weather forcasters.

They looked very impressive around the doak but it is very difficult to get a good picture of them as the background is very busy with people, dockside buildings and things that generally get in the way.

The ship in front is the Asgard II, a magnificant brigantine from Dublin, one of the smaller ships. In the background is the Kaskelot, one of the largest remaining wooden built ships still sailing.

Lack of good photographs apart, it was a good afternoon, and a good precursor to the tall ships race from Liverpool next year. A hundred plus sailing ships in the river Mersey should be an impressive sight.

I was hoping to get down to see some of this spectacle. Do you think it will be worth coming down next week?
Les Auld: Alistair, it is well worth it, the All Aboard event is only on on Saturday and Sunday, I think the ships will be leaving during the forthcoming week. HMS Albion is also in port, open to the public yesterday only.

Years ago NYC had their Tall Ships regalia, Les, so I know how festive this can be. There's just something about tall ships! I love all those masts and rigging lines. Nice shot!
Les Auld: Glad you liked it, it was fun being there as well.

Oh yes! I love tall ships! Did you go to the festival there way back in, ummm, can't remember? Last summer we saw them in Lisbon, what a magnificent sight it is, and this picture captures that memory perfectly for me. Thanks Les. smile
Les Auld: I've been going to the River Festival for the last four years, there is always something to see and the TallShips are just great. But really the best way to see them is when they are in sail.

Thanks for the comment.
